Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray must now be elected to a seat in the Legislative Council before May 27. If not, he will have to resign as Chief Minister and there will be political instability in Maharashtra.

The Cabinet, headed by Ajit Pawar, had earlier on April 9 passed a resolution calling on Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to be elected within six months as the lockdown had postponed the polls for nine vacant seats in the Legislative Council. The future of the alliance was in jeopardy as the governor kept the resolution pending.  Meanwhile, former chief minister and current Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis did not give up on the governor and lost the appointment of the governor-appointed member. He did not stop there but filed a special petition in the Mumbai High Court through an official of his party. However, the Bombay High Court dismissed the petition as prematured. He refused to intervene, saying the petition could not be considered before the governor's decision. Uddhav Thackeray must now be elected before May 27.

The incidence of corona and its outbreak is increasing day by day. In such a situation, the election of the Legislative Council must be approved by the Election Commission and the election must be held without any objection. What does the Election Commission decide now? All the future of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray depends on this.
